Our Northants Under-14 team of Jadon Pham, Ollie Penberthy, Ollie Walden, Joe Jaggard, Jack Meakin, and Cameron Black competed against nine Midland Golf Union County teams at Longcliffe Golf Club on Sunday September 4th. With the best 5 gross scores out of 6 counting the boys got off to a flying start with Jadon’s 74 leading the individual scoreboard for most of the day only to be pipped into 3rd place in the final reckoning behind Zach Banks 73 (SHUGC) and Oliver Badger 74 (Worcs) on countback .
In the all-important team event Ollie Penberthy and Ollie Walden, both with 83, helped keep Northants at mid-table until late in the afternoon when all the scores were in leaving our team 8th on countback between Staffordshire 7th and Lincolnshire 9th who had identical totals as Northants. We finished only 2 shots behind Warwickshire (6th) and 5 behind Leics & Rutland (5th).
The Champion places went to worthy winners Shropshire & Herefordshire (SHUGC) with Cambridgeshire (CAGU) finishing as runners-up. Full individual and team results are on the MGU website.
Our next match will be on October 23rd v Leicestershire & Rutland (winners of the Keith Tripp trophy) at Market Harborough 11.00 am start. This will be the last game for some of our players some of whom have already represented the NGL at U-16 and even U-18 level. I will be in contact soon regarding numbers required but if you want to let me know about availability that would be appreciated.
