Match Report Northants v. Cambs @ St Neots

With Callum Farr away representing England and four clubs in Northants holding their club championships it was a new-look team for this fixture.  Lining up to face Cambridgeshire were Matt Myers, Miles Mudge, Harry Woan, Taylor Sargeant, Martin Conley, Charlie Salter, Chris White and Jack Brown.

The morning foursomes saw some big scores with Myers and Mudge winning convincingly in the top match by a margin of 6/4, Harry Woan and Taylor Sargeant suffered a big defeat as did Chris White and Jack Brown.  Martin Conley and Charlie Salter battled well for a half to keep Northants within touching distance at lunchtime.

Trailing by a point Northants went in to the afternoon determined.  Myers got us off to a steady start with a half, unlucky not to win after his opponent holed a 30 foot putt for birdie on the last green.  Harry Woan had a great tussle with James Reeson but come out second best in the end.  Three wins followed for Mudge (2up), Sargeant (3/1) and Salter, on his First Team Debut, holding his nerve to win on the last hole.  Martin Conley, also making his debut, held on for a half which left us requiring one point from the last two games to win the tie.  Jack Brown battled well for a half and Chris White was the victim of a barrage of birdies on the back nine and ended up losing by just one hole.

This left the game halved at 6 points each which still leaves us in good shape in the league, Lincolnshire suffered a defeat at the hands of Norfolk which leaves only Leicestershire unbeaten in the league who we face next.  A win against them at Cold Ashby could leave us with a real chance of winning the title
