NGL Ladies Vets 2nd Team match v Cambridgeshire

Farthingstone GC 22nd May 2017

After the cold and bad weather of the last few days it was a delight to go to Farthingstone and be welcomed with warm sunshine. The pairing of Gina Evans and home player Mary Gallagher went out first and although they won the first hole it was  a tight game until the 9th hole. Being 3 down they then won the next 3 holes to make it all square by the 12th where Mary's knowledge of some very fast greens enabled them to come in with a 3 /2 win to start this fixture off well.

The second pairing of Jane Ross and Mel Steel both from Elton Furze had a hard fought match which went to the last hole where our two players came out on top. 

Ellen Steel from Rushden was paired with Liz Hall also from Rushden who was playing in her first match for the Vets and managed to win their game 4/3, which has encouraged Liz to put her name down for other games.

Vicki Lyness and Judy Burdett both from Pytchley Lodge took their match to the 18th and halved the match which was a good result as Sue Smith from Cambridgeshire had a shot on the last hole.

Last minute reserve Sue Lane and Bobbie Austin both from Northants County G.C. struggled with the very fast greens and lost their match 3 and 2 against  two lower handicap players from Cambridgeshire.

The Captain of Cambridgeshire Hazel Suswain played against Charmaine Locke and Alison Berry both from Silverstone  G.C. Alison being another first time player. Hazel and her partner Lesley Armstrong managed to finish on the 17th hole winning  2 and 1.

The penulimate pairing of Diana Wells and Doreen Morrison came up the last hole all square with a shot being given to both our players, Trina Miller from Cambridgeshire needed to hole a tricky putt to halve the match but the ball slid past the hole giving the Northants pair the win.

Our final pair of Nadia Anderson from Kingsthorpe and Glenys Emery from Northampton G.C. where able to read the very quick greens and win their match 4 and 3. 

Our President, Diane Brook, was on hand to see the teams come in and sat out in the sunshine to share our 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 win.
