NGL Ladies Vets 2nd Team match v Lincolnshire

Stoke Rochford GC 5th June 2017

The lady vets second team travelled to Stoke Rochford to start playing in difficult conditions. There was a strong wind and showers which obviously affected the play and it was a struggle for our first two players Karen Johnson( Oundle) and Sandy Burgess (Overstone) as they found themselves four down at the turn, however they were very determined on the back nine and managed to pull back to take the game to the 18th which ended in a 1 down loss.

Our second pairing of Jackie Rolfe (Kingsthorpe) and Sue Lane ( Northants County) again started out in the rain and although struggling with the wind managed to finish all square on the 18th. Jane Ashby and Sue Dawkins both from Pytchley were paired against two lower handicapped players from Lincolnshire and finished on the 18th 2 down.

Our 4th pairing of Joyce Fisher and Carol Alban both from Nene Park playing in their first match again played lower handicapped players and ended 3 down on the 16th.

It was a pleasure to see Pam Sayles, a past president and great supporter of Northamptonshire Lady Vets coming to play with Sandra Goldsack a fellow member from Kettering and although Pam and Sandra had some success on the front nine they eventually finished on the 15th hole 4 down.

Gina Boreham (Northampton ) and Pat Ward (Silverstone) had better luck with the weather as it began to calm down a little in the afternoon and they finished all square. Trish Crighton ( Elton Furze) and Julie Edwards (Kingsthorpe) were able to read the greens better than their opponents and  finished their match on the 14th hole winning 5 and 4. The final pairing of Doreen Morrison (Staverton) and Gina Evans (Overstone) played a very tight match against the Lincolnshire Captain and her partner, the match never being anymore than 1 hole different, however the fairways were quite wet and by the 16th hole the Lincolnshire pair were 2 up. The 17th hole is a par 3 and Doreen managed to putt close to the hole and as the putt was conceded it meant the opposition needed to sink a five footer to close down the match, this didn't happen so the match went to the last hole where Gina  had a shot and after sinking a long putt made the opposition putt again but this time they were successful and the game ended with a win for Lincolnshire by one hole.
