Monday June 28th  Norfolk v Northants Seniors at Kingsthorpe GC

A tough day at Kingsthorpe

Thankfully the thunderstorms that were forecast did not materialise.Kingsthorpe is a course that requires accuracy rather than distance off the tee, and with good growing conditions straying into the rough often resulted in a lost ball. With a number of regular league match players missing it was an opportunity for four squad members to make their  league debuts; namely Mick Barnett, Steve Brightmore, Simon Orreyand Ian Townsend.

The word on the grapevine was that Norfolk had been strengthened by a number of new members off scratch or better. We were expecting a stiff challenge from our opponents, the course and the weather- and that's how it turned out. Norfolk edged the morning foursomes 3-2. There were wins for the home pairs of Brendon Moss & Dominic Jessup and Dennis Mathers & Alistair Heslop.

With both sides keen to make a good start in the afternoon singles, rain made conditions more difficult. It was Norfolk who delivered the goods taking the first five games. Northamptonshire had to setle for 3 of the remaining 5 points with wins for Denis Mathers (1up) and impressive wins for newcomers Simon Orrey (6&4) and Ian Townsend (5&4).
