High Drama on the 18th

Our Midlands League campagn got underway against Notts, always a strong side and this year proved no exception. It was a glorious day for some exciting golf. Notts got off to a strong start winning the first four morning fousomes. The one way traffic stopped by Mike Burnhope & Greg Thomas winning their game and Brian O'Connell & Ted Dunn securing a half.

 Needing four wins in the afternoon Northants were dealt a further blow by when injury struck Gary Grimmitt who had to retire with severe back problems. Roger Butler had to battle valiantly  on his own . Adie Firman &  Brendon Moss  and Tony Lord &  Alistair Heslop recorded solid wins reversing the disappointments of the morning. With Mike Burnhope & Greg Thomas repeating their victory tension was rising. It came down to the last match which stood all square on the 18th tee. With a solid par from Brian O'Connell , Ted Dunn saw his birdie attempt slide agonisingly past the cup, it was left to Notts' Mick Grindle to hole a tricky 3 footer to secure the half, and the match. With the rest of the teams' members watching from the balcony, Mick was up to the challenge holing out in fine style giving Nottinghamshire victory by the narrowest of margins, 9 1/2 to 8 1/2.

If the restof our matches are like this we are in for a thrilling season.
