This year golf was the winner

Our final match of the season was the epitomy of all that is good about Seniors inter-county golf - a combination of competative golf and fellowship. The course was in excellent condition, with smooth,  quick greens and tree lined fairwaysrequiring accuracy off the tee,

The morning greensomes were a one sided affair. Only Brendon Moss & Alan Freeman putting a point on the board for Northants, meaning Staffs went into the afternoon 5-1 up.

The afternoon got off to a damp start , with a sustained heavy downpour before all the games were underway, The threat of thunder and lightning closed the course, with players returning to the clubhouse. On resumption Staffs continued to harvest points taking the afternoon points 8-4 , and 13-5 overall. Brendon Moss & Alan Freeman contributed a maximum 3 points on the day, but there was also a good win for Grahame Castle & Rob Price.

It was a season of might have been. Without a number of injuries and matches turning on a single game, and in some cases a single putt, things might have looked very different. It's easy to look back and say we could have done better. We played a full season of competative golf. This year golf, and golfers, won and Covid came in a distant second. Long may it continue.
