Seniors Anglian League  v Suffolk

Woodbridge G.C. June 15th 2021

We were blessed with bright sunshine and a warm breeze for our first Anglian League match of the season. The course was in excellent condition and proved a good test of golf. In the Captain's pre-match conversation, Kevin Brooks, the Suffolk Captain commented on how close our previous matches had been, and that's how it turned out again.

Suffolk got off to a good start taking two of the first three foursomes matches, but our final pairings of Dennis Mathers & Dominic Jessup and Brian O'Connell & Jim Tricklebank rallied to give us a 3-2 lunchtime lead. The afternoon singles proved to be close run contests with all ten games going to the 17th or 18th hole. Seniors golf must be a hazardous affair as we had two retirements, one on each side. However Suffolk again started well taking an early 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead. Suffolk then took 4 1/2 of the remaining 5 points, giving them a 7-3 afternoon win and the match 9-6.
