NGL W omen's Vets 1st team  match v Leicestershire & Rutland

26th June 2023 at Ullesthorpe Court GC

On Monday 26th June the 1st team travelled to Ullesthorpe Court GC to play a match against Leics & Rutland Vets 1st team. Fortunately the day was a pleasant 22C with a breeze which was lovely golf weather not the stifling, energy sapping 31C with a fierce wind of the day before. Some of the ladies had played the course several years before and some had not, but as some of the Leics ladies had never played the course before there wasn't a particular home advantage. The course is quite hilly, as you expect of Leicestershire, and quirky with water (in ponds or ditches) a feature  and also the old railway line running through the course. At the turn there is a run of two par 3's, a par 4 and another par 3 which can be quite tricky if you don't manage to get your ball in the right position, then the 18th is a longish par 5 downhill to a pond and ditch before sharp uphill to a 2-tier green which is quite fast - definitely a signature hole.The ladies played well although there was a long gap between groups 3 and 4 and Sandy and I were beginning to think they had got lost but it was a tight match with the advantage constantly changing from side to side fortunately out team won on the 18th.
In the clubhouse we had a lovely meal and particularly the chocolate brownie and hot chocolate sauce dessert - the lady who served us merits a special mention as she ran herself ragged serving us all. I would like to thank Sandy for sorting the cards and collecting the money as I was late arriving. I would also like to thank Sarah Bowler for arranging the match and meal and for such a nice day.

Overall the match was a satisfying win 6 - 2 to Northamptonshire - well done ladies.
