2nd team v Cambridgeshire 

Wellingborough GC was the venue for our 4th Match of this year’s Anglian League for County 2 nd Teams. We knew a win was essential if our League challenge was to continue. 
A strong team was selected with home player Jon Harris a welcome inclusion together with young debutant Jadon Pham and seasoned campaigner Carl Sainsbury. Sam Gilkes kindly helped out after a late first team call off. 
Morning Foursomes saw us playing well and Fraser and Carl had a narrow win over Bailey and Sizer 2/1.
Jadon and Sam saw off Arthur and Cowie 3/2.
Jon and Ben met up for the second time, the first time was when they were paired up and went on to win the County Scratch Foursomes title. They carried on their partnership with a 6/4 win over Wild and Price.
Liam and Jamie, a regular pairing, were not at their best but managed to beat Todd and Shelton 3/2.
So a 4-0 result after the morning session.
In the singles Carl had a titanic battle against Bailey before winning 1 up. 
Jon was always in command with his local knowledge, to beat Shelton 4/3.
Fraser, who had just returned from a holiday break, dug deep to beat Todd 2/1.
Ben was not at his best but dug in to gain a 1 up win against Sizer and maintain his worth to this team by picking up points. 
Jadon played some stunning golf to be 1 up with 1 to play, however a birdie by Cowie on 18 saw the game shared. 
Liam, who was not at his best, fought back from 3 down to lead 1 up playing the last. Arthur won the 18th to gain a half in this match. 
Sam was hit by late on good play from Price and lost 4/3.
Finally Jamie showed some of his County Championship winning firm to close out his game 4/3.
Early on we were behind in lots of these singles games but the team spirit and character of this team came through to give us a 10-2 win. 
It appears that Leics have won all 4 matches to date with a large ‘goal difference’. We travel to meet them in early September at Kibworth GC to conclude a very good season for the 2nds.
