Both teams were delighted to be playing at this prestigious Open Qualifying Course, which as usual was presented in excellent condition.
We had high hopes of a win against a Suffolk team that  always gives us an incredibly close contest. Always played in a friendly spirit.
We made a fast start in the mornings foursomes with Anthony Bruce and Andy Saunders gaining a close 2&1 win against the Suffolk Captain James and his partner Daniel.
Game 2 saw Fraser Carniham and Jack Brown playing against 2 seasoned Suffolk players. A few loose shots saw us go down 3&2, a surprise as this was our strongest pairing.
Alec Francis and Sam Bird in game 3 had a brilliant match against Daniel and Dominic before sealing a hard fought 1up win.
In the final foursomes match Jon Harris and Jacob Williams made a few errors and at this level you get punished. A 4&2 win for the Suffolk pairing leaving the contest evenly poised at lunch, 2 v 2.
Fraser was out first in the singles and had a firm grip on his game against James from early, eventually closing out his game 5&3. An impressive display.
2nd game saw Andy well beaten by Dominic despite the game being close early on. 6&5.
Alec was in a determined mood in his singles and he beat the luckless Daniel 5&3 to give us a slender lead in the Match.
Jacob looked in control of his match and was 1 up with 3 to play, this became all square with one to play and an errant tee shot cost Jacob the game 1 down. Match now 4 v 4.
in game 3 Jon was playing solidly and was too strong for his opponent Jimmy and closed out his game 5&3, a popular score. 5 v 4 to Northants.
Next up saw Captain Sam in a roller coaster game against Adam. Despite his best efforts he was unable to quite claw back his deficit losing 1 down. 5 v 5.
Game 7 saw Anthony in a close match that swung away from him on the back 9, losing 5&4 to Daniel Hedges.
A win was needed in the final singles with Jack struggling to stay with Marc who was 1 up for a lot of the back 9. A mistake by Marc saw Jack win the 17th to go all square with the 18th to play. Needing a win, Jack hit a tremendous 2 iron some 245 yards on to the green. His putt to win his game was agonisingly just wide of the hole and the hole was halved in birdies leaving us just short.
A superb contest as usual with Suffolk with us losing the contest 5.5 v 6.5
Our final match of the season is away in Cambridge at Gog Magog on the 1st September.
