NGL Women's Vets 2nds  match v Leicestershire & Rutland

Rushden Golf Club rolled the red carpet out for everyone with Cara, chief chef  and Paul front of house ensuring that nothing was too much trouble and the refreshments were served quickly and efficiently.
The Lady President, Margaret Litchfield, was in attendance and she was available not only for a chat but also to help in starting each group off from the first tee.
The weather was very windy but for once it didn't rain and the wind was the only fly in the ointment as it blew hard throughout the day .
Both teams fought very hard and their determination to win was pleasing to see and the results showed how close the match finished.
The course was in excellent condition and the greens particularly were smooth and with true runs to the hole.
Apart from the wind there were no excuses to be made for poor shots or inaccurate putts.
However, the gremlins on the course, particularly on the par 3's meant that full concentration was needed to win a hole.
Our opponents started with a convincing win at number one but Northamptonshire then halved the second match, won the third and then came down to earth losing the fourth match.
In a very tight match the fifth match was won on the 18 th hole followed by another two wins at six and seven.
The last match was very hard fought but Northamptonshire were squeezed out of a win by a strong final pairing. 
The result was a 4.5 to 3.5 win for Northamptonshire.
Well done to all involved today from the collector of money, to the President, the staff at Rushden  but above all else to the Northamptonshire players for their enthusiasm, skill and determination to win for their County.
