Friendly Seniors Match v Derbyshire

25th July 2024 at South Chesterfield GC

This was a friendly match played away at South Chesterfield GC and was my first as stand Captain for the day.

We were looked after very well by the golf club and were well fed and watered.  I think it's fair to say that the course wasn't the most challenging at under 6000 yds, but the greens increased the degree of difficulty with lots of subtle breaks, however even with this being the case, I think there were a lot of birdies flying around in most matches.

This fixture is always great fun, Richard and I certainly had a great day.  The standard of golf all round seemed to be of a very high quality and all of the matches, morning and afternoon, were very close.

In the morning Greensomes there were two matches halved, three at 2&1 and one 3&2, so all very close.  We managed to come out 4-2 up after the morning.  The afternoon proved to be just as competitive, with three matches halved, two 1up and one 3&2, again we managed to take the afternoon fourballs 7-5.  This gave us an overall result of a 11-7 win!

Special mention should perhaps go to the one pairing that managed to pick up all 3 points, but modesty prevents me from doing so.  I would also like to thank Alastair for his help today and for reminding me not to run off with the £30 tip in my pocket!

I think this is the first win for the friendly matches so far this season, so I would like to thank all the team for a top effort and for getting up early for the 1 ½ hour journey up there.  I hope we continue this trend in the friendly next week against Staffordshire, good luck to all the team.
