East Midlands League Seniors Match v Nottinghamshire

30th July 2024 at Wollaton Park GC

A pivotal match where both teams could state their title ambitions with a win. It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and perfect playing conditions. The Wollaton Park golf course is one of the best venues we play, the fairways were running fast with penal rough just off the fairway.

Nottinghamshire matched the hot temperature with a strong performance in the opening foursomes with a 5-1 advantage. This was a little flattering as a couple of games were decided on the last hole.

The deficit proved too big to overcome as we were unable to improve on the morning score with the exception of Ian Wicks and Dominic Ralfs, they were able to reverse their morning defeat. The afternoon score was 9-3 resulting in a overall 14-4 win for Nottinghamshire.

Wollaton staff were very obliging all day providing much needed refreshment on probably the hottest day of the year. Both teams shared the days stories with a fabulous carvery meal and sweet. New friendships were made, and we look forward to hosting them next year.

Understandably the team were disappointed especially as we had put ourselves in a good position this season. We are still in a strong position in the Anglian league and a win at Lincolnshire should be enough to win the league.
