We travelled to The Manor Golf Club near Stafford in the Midlands as one of 10 Counties taking part in this prestigious Competition.
We fielded a strong team with Captain Ollie Penberthy in recent good form.
One round for all 6 players with the best 5 scores to count. After the recent heavy rains the Course was wet but very playable. A hilly Course with several blind shots so the practice round the day before was essential.
First out was Cameron Black who recorded a commendable score of 4 over 75 to get us off to a good start. Next saw young Josh Bland scoring 11 over 82, a tough day in the conditions but what a talent for the future.
Third player out was Isaac Hedger who made a few errors early on in his round but came back stronger on the back 9 and posted 15 over par 86. He was followed by Captain Ollie who also found the front 9 tough, however 3 birdies in a row on the back 9 helped him get back to 3 over par before 2 unfortunate bogeys on 17 and 18 saw him finish with 5 over par 76 to be our 2nd best counter.
Jadon Pham was next out and on the day nothing seemed to go right for this talented youngster and he finished with 15 over par 86. Finally we saw Ollie Walden scoring a reasonably impressive 10 over par 81 to be our third best counter.
Not the result we wanted and our team score of +45, 401, placed us 8th of the 10 Counties.
The winners were the home side of Derbyshire and their top 3 players scored 2 under, 1 under and 1 over par. Amazing scores in the tough conditions.
Several of our players will form the nucleus of our Junior Under 18s for 2025.
