Anglian League  & East Midlands League  Seniors Match v Cambridge shire

18th July 2025 at Saffron Walden GC

A dual league match at Saffron Walden GC with perfect playing conditions with a cooling breeze on a hot day. The golf course was in perfect condition and was a little greener than most courses we have played so far this season. It is worth a visit if you have the possibility to do so.

The morning foursomes were very close with Northamptonshire leading 3-2 in the Anglian league (AL) and all square 3-3 in the East Midland (EL), so all to play for in the afternoon singles.

The afternoon was just as close with 3 games going to the par 3 18th. Fortunately, we won all these games to share the 12 singles games 6-6. This meant that we won the AL match 8-7 and drew the EL match 9-9. 

We are evenly matched with Cambridgeshire and are similar in size financially and the player resources that we can call upon. This means that our game is very competitive but held in a friendly nature. There is no promotion or relegation, so we get the privilege of renewing friendships and rivalry every year.

Saffron Walden is a friendly club, and we were looked after all day by the staff and the evening meal was very popular.

A final thankyou to Ken Parsons, their captain for the last 3 years, this was his last game in charge. He is a credit to their county and has formed friendships with many of our team during our matches and other Midland events throughout the years.
