East Anglian MGU Seniors Match v Leicestershire

28th May 2025 at Kirby Muxloe GC

The first East Midlands league match against local rivals Leicestershire and Rutland was at Kirby Muxloe GC. I have fond memoirs of this course as I was a corporate member when I worked nearby. It was in great condition with the greens as good as I have played on this year, additionally if was very green and the water hazards were full, so they have had rain recently.

I modified the team order for this match, mixing the strength/experience between positions 1-6, unfortunately this did not change our poor foursomes performance. We lost the morning session 5-1 with the pairing of Garry Grimmitt and Mick Barnett gaining the only point.

The weather was a little overcast in the morning with a couple of light showers, but it cleared for the afternoon to be warm and pleasant with a light wind.

The target in the afternoon was to gain 4 wins to achieve at least a draw overall. We came up just short with a 3-3 result in the afternoon, losing the overall match 11-7. Wins for Tony Lord and James Barker, Greg Thomas and Richard Jackson, Ian Donald and Andy Limbert. Special mention to Ian, his first game for the seniors and only the second for Andy.

Even though we are rivals there is a friendly familiarity between the teams and we were well looked after throughout the day by all at Kirby Muxloe.
