East Midlands & Anglian League Seniors Match v Norfolk

18th August 2025 at Overstone Park GC

The last league match of the season against Lincolnshire at Overstone GC.

The weather was a little overcast with a slight wind but overwise ideal conditions. Like most courses this year it was playing hard and fast. For those who know the course the par 5 ninth was playing a driver and a wedge if you hit the correct line off the tee. The difficulty of the course was increased due to some tough pin positions, notably for me the 14th, which was front right.

The morning foursomes results were 4-1 Anglian League (AL) and 4-2 East Midland League (EML) to Lincolnshire. Foursomes are our nemesis, and it always leaves us with a lot to do in the afternoon singles.

We produce a great fight back in the afternoon winning the AL singles 6-4 but halving the EML singles 6-6. It was a close match and the favoured Lincolnshire team were concerned until the last result came in. The overall results were AL 8-7 and EML 10-8 wins for Lincolnshire.

Highlight of the day was an impressive close out of his match by Andy Limbert who had an eagle 2 on the par 4 16th, followed with another 2 on the par 3 7th for a 2 and 1 win.

It was a long day as the course was busy in the afternoon and I would like to thank the Overstone staff for hosting throughout the day, especially as the evening meal had to be pushed back to accommodate the late finish.

Finally, I would like to thank all the players who participated this year for giving me their time and effort. Unfortunately, we have not achieved the results we wanted however the games were close and 1 or 2 match reversals would have gained more league points. We have gained a few new players this season and potential new players next year to increase the squad and competition for places. This will definitely help next season for us achieve a higher position in the leagues.
