East Midlands League Seniors Match v Nottinghamshire

28th July 2025 at Northants County GC

A welcome return to the county course that we have not had the opportunity of playing a league match for a while. The course was in excellent condition, and we had perfect weather conditions, not too hot, no rain and little wind.

Nottinghamshire won the East Midlands league last year so are a strong team and they needed a win to keep in contention this year.

The morning foursomes went to the opponents 4-2, this kept us in touch for the 6 4BBB with 2 points for a win. Unfortunately, we lost 8-4 for an overall defeat of 12-6. Three of the afternoon games were lost by 1 hole. In 2 of those games we were up on the back 9 but could not hold on for the wins. This has been the story this year, the results come down to just 1 or 2 games.

On a positive note, congratulations to debutant John Thorpe who won in the afternoon with partner Mike Barnett.

The county were excellent hosts throughout the day and we had the sandwiches and chips on the terrace outside whilst reliving our rounds with our opponents. We look forward to playing again at the county in the future.
