Champion of Champions is Chambers

Mikey Chambers was the player to beat in the Champion of Champions final at Kingsthorpe GC as he compiled a winning score of level par 69.

The plus-two handicapper carded 13 consecutive pars in the middle of his round, before adding a couple of late birdies to finish two ahead of home club member Lee Hitchcock. 

Defending champion Jamie Ashcroft (Kettering) and Christian Williams (Whittlebury) finished a further two shots back.

The Ladies Champion of Champions competition came to a stunning conclusion as Thalia Martin (Peterborough Milton) snatched a one stroke victory from Northampton’s Leah Ribano.

The 2016 County Ladies champion looked out of contention before she birdied the 16th hole and then bagged an eagle three down the last to grab the first prize with a gross 78.

With the knockout finals taking place on the same day, teenager Jensen Parfitt (Collingtree Park) had too much for Matt Bishop (Silverstone) in the Singles final as he romped to a 6&4 victory.

The Foursomes and Betterball finals proved a lot closer as both matches were decided on the 17th hole.

Cold Ashby’s Dennis Mathers and Paul White beat Dean Roberts and Lloyd Skidmore (Northampton) in the Foursomes, while Darren Buchan and Pete Dee (Priors Hall) edged out Daventry’s Chris Eveleigh and Dave Musker in the Betterball.
