Herridge wins County Championship

NGU County Champion Nick Herridge at Peterborough Milton GC

Brampton Heath’s Nick Herridge was crowned 2014 NGU Strokeplay Champion after recording a one stroke success on a day of fluctuating weather conditions at Peterborough Milton GC.

An early thunder storm turned into intermittent spells of heavy and light rain during the morning as Herridge carded a round of 75 to sit seven shots behind home club member Chris White at the half way stage.

The afternoon sunshine brought out the best in Herridge however as he bagged five birdies and an eagle on the 13th hole to snatch the plaudits with a two-under-par score of 69.

With White dropping out of contention, Ryan Connolly finished runner-up on countback from Wellingborough club-mate Kyson Lloyd and Kettering’s Michael Campbell.

Connolly also collected the Braid's Driver as the leading golfer under the age of 22, while White had the consolation of picking up the team prize for Peterborough, alongside Tom Burgh and Josh Scimeca.

To cap a wonderful day for the hosts, Milton had the pleasure of providing the leading net golfer as 12-year-old Robin Williams, who plays off four, further emphasised his huge potential by shooting a winning net total of 140.
