Brampton Heath added their name to the list of Hollingsworth Trophy winners as they clinched the title for the first time with a 4-1 victory over Peterborough Milton in the final at Kettering GC.
Milton were the first team on the scoresheet as Ian Smith holed his second shot from 150 yards for a winning eagle on the 14th hole as he combined with Ian Wicks to beat Gary McAllister and Brendan Kelly.
Brampton levelled the match when Ben Jones and Mark Halliday found their best form to defeat Bob Duthie and Mark Johnson 5&4.
Game five also saw an equally convincing win for Andrew Sewell and Lee Bellham as they used their extra shots wisely to beat Peterborough’s Scott O'Connor and Neil Thompson by the same score.
With the other two ties going the distance and Milton needing to win both to snatch victory, Martin Humphries and Dominic Ralfs found trouble off the 18th tee against Brampton’s Guy Loveland and Nick Herridge.
Despite a good recovery shot from Ralfs, they could only card a bogey as their opponents safely two-putted for par on the final green to secure the team victory.
Brampton, whose Scratch team were promoted into the top tier this season, capped a memorable 2014 in style as David Gottsch and James Wiggins edged out Dale Barham and Lee Barham down the last.
