NGU season comes to a dramatic conclusion

Fraser Carnihan made it two victories in his last three competitions as he won the NGU Am-Am top prize, just a few weeks after lifting the Cold Ashby Club Championship.
The plus-one handicapper compiled a three-under-par gross round at Overstone Park to nudge one point clear of Michael Chambers (Priors Hall) and Kyson Lloyd (Wellingborough).
The 2014 NGU Order of Merit witnessed a dramatic conclusion as Lloyd and fellow Wellingborough member Jon Harris shared the top prize after ending the year with 73 points apiece.
With Lloyd trailing his club-mate by four points going into the final event of the season, the plus-two-handicapper looked set for victory when he moved to five-under-par with just a few holes to play.
A poor finish proved costly for Lloyd however as the County Matchplay Champion’s third place wasn’t quite enough to overtake Harris, who took seventh on the day.

In the Am-Am team event, a score of 83 points was enough for victory as Mike Gilbrook, James Musson (both Wellingborough) and Steve Jackson (Kingsthorpe) combined successfully with Peterborough Milton’s Ian Wicks.
Harris picked up the runners-up prize after teaming up with home club members Andrew Pell, Dave Watson and Steve Warren to card 82 points.
