Boys British Amateur Championship
Northamptonshire had plenty to be proud of during the Boys British Amateur Championship as three local juniors made the knockout stages at Prestwick & Dundonald Links in Scotland.
In a field of 252 players, which included boys from 23 different countries across the world, the Northants County trio of Matt Myers, Callum Farr and Sam Henfrey finished in the top 23 in qualifying.
Farr and Henfrey, who both carded scores of 74 and 78, went out in the first knockout stage, but fellow teenager Matt Myers battled his way through to the last 16.
After shooting 79 and 70 to finish 13th in qualifying, Myers beat Ben Bradley 2&1 in the opening round before defeating Ryan Lumsden on the 18th hole in his next match.
The teenager, who won the Northamptonshire Boys strokeplay and Matchplay titles this year, went out of the tournament in the last 16 as he lost 3&2 to South Africa’s Rowan Lester, who went on to finish runner-up.
