Northants County clinch Ladies Scratch League

Rachel Smith grabbed the decisive point for Northants County against reigning champions Wellingborough at Overstone Park GC as they secured their first Ladies Scratch League title since 1999.

With Wellingborough needing a 3-0 victory to claim their seven successive league title, they made an excellent start as Mary MacLaren beat Gill Curley 4&3.

Although Becky MacLaren beat fellow teenager Millie Billson to win the overall match for Wellingborough, it wasn’t enough to clinch the title as Smith beat Carol Gibbs on the first extra hole in the other tie.
