Kingsthorpe’s Gary Malin, Jason Spence and Nigel Welford were the combination to beat in the NGU Izzard Team Trophy at Whittlebury Park GC.
In a competition, which features one low, one medium and one high handicapper in each team, Kingsthorpe nudged a single point clear of the field.
With all three scores going towards the team tally, Malin’s superb front nine of 22 points helped him shoot the joint-leading individual mark of 39 points.
Spence was also in fine fettle as he birdied three holes on the front nine and then bagged a vital birdie at the par five 18th on his way to 38 points.
Despite not being able to match the brilliance of his two club colleagues, Welford (pictured right) managed to score on every hole as he carded a consistent round of 29 points.
Farthingstone’s Bradley Wardell, Chris Leeming and Peter Butterwick (105) had to settle for second position.
